Vehicle Parking

Overview

All local authorities should have policies aimed at tackling congestion and changing travel behaviour (see the Department for Transport (DfT) website for more details). These could include restricting and/or charging for car parking. These measures are included in many air quality action plans to reduce emissions. Guidance on local parking policy and the operation of enforcement is also available on the DfT website.

These measures should now also incorporate parking policies for electric vehicles. The Energy Saving Trust has a series of best practice guides that are designed to assist local authorities who are developing and managing public charging infrastructure networks, including on how to adapt parking policies for Electric Vehicles.
