Sustainable Travel Guides

Overview

Sustainable travel is about providing transport to suit local needs through a package of measures which promote attractive sustainable transport alternatives such as walking, cycling, public transport and sustainable car use – all of which will assist in lowering pollutant emissions. Evidence from the Sustainable Travel Towns page and the Evaluation of the Cycling City and Cycling Demonstration Towns page suggest that benefits include reduced congestion, better quality of life, improved air quality, health benefits, as well as carbon savings.

The Department for Transport has drafted a document stating the current challenges and steps to be taken when developing their transport decarbonisation plan, with the plan to be published in Spring 2021.
