When declaring an Air Quality Management Area there is no specified size required, however, as a minimum the Air Quality Management Area boundary should cover the area of technical exceedence where relevant exposure exists. Different local authorities have taken individual approaches to setting their AQMA boundaries. Some authorities have taken a ‘hot-spot' approach while others have preferred the larger urban, whole borough or even regional approach.
